Tenth Generation

ADELEITA S.10 HATHAWAY (Adiel9, John8, David7, Love6, Savory5, Simon4, Arthur3, John2, Arthur1) was born at Fairhaven, Bristol County, Massachusetts, on 13 June 1907, a daughter of Adiel Harvey Hathaway and his wife Julia Reed,[1] and died at Patomac, Montgomery County, Maryland, on 3 March 1988.[2] She married at New Bedford, Bristol County, on 19 September 1932 HENRY RICHARD DAVIS.[3] He was born at New Bedford on 15 May 1909, a son of Henry and Louise (Bailey) Davis.[4] They separated in 1942,[5] and later divorced.

In 1924 Adeleita "Leita" Hathaway graduated from Fairhaven High School and went to work for the telephone company. She lost that job because her hands broke out, and her coworkers feared ity might be contagious.

Leita married Henry Davis in 1932. The 1940 Census reported Henry, 31, Adeleita, 32, and their two month old baby girl at 1480 Sassaquin Road, New Bedford. Henry was manager of a lunch stand, Leita a homemaker.[6] However, according to the family, in 1935 Leita went to work for Fibre Leather and Fibre Products, two related companies in the South End of New Bedford. Leita was a bookkeeper and supervisor of their bookkeeping department until she had to retire because of a stroke in 1970.

Leita and Henry lived near Sassaquin Pond in New Bedford; after their separation, Leita continued to live there. Because Leita worked, she needed help taking care of a small child. As a baby, Joann was taken care of by Margaret Hathaway (daughter of Adiel) and Ruth Stone (daughter of Julia). Then Leita's mother came to live with them. Grandmother, mother and daughter lived for a brief time at 17 Lincoln Street, New Bedford. In 1948 they moved to 7 John Street on Sconticut Neck, Fairhaven. There Leita lived until 1970.

In 1970 Leita suffered an irreversable stroke that left her hemiplegic on the left side. Charle and Pauline Maxfield found her at her home. After a stay in the hospital, she went in 1970 to Ohio to stay with her daughter. In 1983 she moved with her daughter to Maryland.[7]

Joann "Jodi" Davis graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1957. She received B.A. (1962) and M.A. (1964) degrees from Boston University, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. In 1967 she received an M.S. in Library Science from Simmons College, Boston.

Jodi worked at the Massachusetts General Hospital Medical Library, Boston (1964-66). In 1967, as a librarian at the Job Corps Center in New Bedford, she did a research project on multi-media and libreary resources for the cultutally disadvantaged. From 1967 to 1973 Jodi worked for the Ohio State University (Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio) as an Associate Professor of Library Administration. Next, she was director of the Medical Center Library at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio (1973-82). After moving to Maryland she worked as a librarian for General Electric.

Jodi has written many articles and book reviews in professional journals. She has enjoyed travelling widely, especially in developing countries.[8]

Jodi's second husband, Fuad Suleiman, is a native of Palestine, and a frequently published commentator on international relations. He has received the following degrees:
