RICHARD STEWART3 LEZENBY (Samuel2, Cornelius1) was born probably at Camden County, New Jersey, on October, 1867,[1] a son of Samuel Lezenby and his wife Anna Dodd. He died at Camden, Camden County, on 13 January 1939.[2] He married at Camden on 15 July 1896 ANNA REMINE.[3] She was born at New Jersey on 6 September 1876, a daughter of Joseph and Sarah (Thompson) Remine. She died at Riverton, Burlington County, New Jersey, on 24 July 1960.[4]
Richard Lezenby was only four years old when his father died; within a year his mother remarried. Together they had a blended family of four Hackney girls and Richard, the one Lezenby boy. The blended family lived at Willingborough, Burlington County.
Richard and Anna (Remine) Lezenby lived in Riverton. The 1900 and 1910 censuses reported them living in her family's household. The 1920 and 1930 censuses reported them in charge of their own home. The census records descibed Richard as a day laborer in 1900, a huckster of fish and vegetables in 1910, an insurance agent in 1920, and watchman for a paper tube mill in 1930.
Census records give us glimpses into the evolving composition of this multi-generational household. In 1900, Richard and Anne were living with her parents at 515 Howard Street, Riverton:[5]

Joseph Romine rented their home. The Romines had been married thirty years, the Lezenby's four. Sarah Romine had given birth to six children, only two of whom were still living, the two in her household. Anna Lezenby had given birth to two children, both of whom were living; why they were not reported in the census I cannot explain.
In 1910 the household, headed by widow Sarah Remine, resided at 406 Howard Street:[6]

Hazel was Sarah's granddaughter, not her daughter. Ed Thompson, called a brother here, was called a boarder in 1900. If he is Sarah's brother, then Sarah's maiden name was Thompson. Sarah had six children, two living. Anna had three children, all living. Richard and Anna had been married thirteen years; this was the first marriage for both.
In 1920 Anna Was the head of the household, at 528 Main Street, Riverton:[7]

Anna's sister Sarah had married and died, and her widowed husband and children were in the household, as well as her mother. Nephews Joseph and Henry were still in school.
In 1930 Richard Lezenby was listed as head of the household at 503 Cinnamisson Street, Riverton. Richard Lezenby, 58, was watchman for a paper tube mill, Anna, 54, had no occupation, son Joseph, 28, was a retail salesman for groceries. The other children were no longer in the household, but Joseph Borden, and his chldren Dorothy and Henry, were there.[8]
The 1940 Census reported widow Anna Lezenby at 625 Main Street, Riverton, head of a large multi-generational extended family:[9]
