JOHN1 RINTZ was born at the German state of Württemberg on 1 June 1804 and died at Colerain Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on 26 January 1876.[1] He married on 24 December 1833 BARBARA BURGESS.[2] She was born at Pennsylvania on 28 April 1805 and died there on 9 August 1880.[3]
According to a Shared family Tree at familysearch.org, Johan Rintz was a child of Jacob Rintz and Mary Sheaffer.[4] However I do not know the sources of this information and cannot support it from any of my research. Barbara Burgess was born in Pennsylvania; according to information provided to the 1880 Census, her parents were born in Ireland. I have no further information on the families of origin of John and Barbara.
John and Barbara (Burgess) Rintz lived and raised their family in Colerain Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. John was described as a collier [coal miner] in the 1850 Census, a post fence maker in 1860, and a farmer in 1870. In their first thirteen years of marriage, Barbara gave birth to nine children, seven of whom lived to adulthood.
The 1850 Census reported the family at Colerain Township as follows:[5]

Son Jacob Rintz was reported on the same page, age 16, laborer, in the household of James Berkley.[6]
The 1860 Census reported John (56) and Barbara (55) Rentz at Colerain Township, with only three children remaining at home: Robert, 18, Hannah, 16, and Harriet 14, all attending school.[7] Of the other children in the 1860 Census:
In 1870, John Rintz, 66, and Barbara, 65, had only one child remaining with them: Harriet, 24.[10]
John Rintz died in 1876; the 1880 Census reported widow Barbara (Burgess) Rintz living with her son Jacob and family at Colerain Township.[11]
John Rintz wrote a will on 10 March 1874; it was proved in court on 5 Begruary 1876. It reads as follows:[12]

I John Rintz of the Township of Colerain, county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, being of sound mind, memory and understanding, do make, publish and declare the following to be my last will and testament in manner viz.: Item. Great great granddaughter Mary Elizabeth (Bauer) (Ranck) Kibler had in her possession a piece of fabric with the following note:[13]
Enclosed is flax, thread and material, the history of which follows: Flax raised in southern Lancaster County by Barbara Burgess Rintz. Flax was spun into thread in Lancaster County by her daughter Harriet Rintz in 1858. She was then about twelve years old. Thread was then hand woven in New Providence into material. A sheet was made from the material by Barbara Burgess Rintz, for her third oldest child, Elizabeth. Christmas, 1910, Elizabeth then gave it to Mary A.
