JOHN5 SUNDAY (Daniel4, Andrew3, Jacob2, Hans Adam1) was born at Seneca County, Ohio, on 23 February 1838 a son of Daniel Sunday and his wife Catherine Rheinhart, and died at Clear Lake, Steuben County, Indiana, on 12 December 1906.[1] He married at Steuben County on 13 May 1860 LOUISE ANN HUGHES.[2] She was born at Indiana on 28 May 1841 and died on 4 July 1895.[3]
The fifth of eight children, John Sunday spent his early years growing up on farms in Ohio. At some point in his early teen years, John moved with his family to a new farm, in Steuben County, Indiana.
The 1860 Census, taken eighteen days after John had married Louise, reported the young family farming in Salem Township, Steuben County. John was 21, Louise 19.[4]
In 1870 John and Loise occupied the farm reported immediately before John's parents, in Salem Township. Their family consisted of John, 30, Louisa, 29, Andrew, 9, and David, 3.[5] This is the last reference that I have found to the son Andrew.
The 1880 Census reported this family in the village of Hudson, Salem Township. John, 41, was described as a laborer, Louisa, 38, was keeping house. David, 12, Ida, 5, and Marshall, 3, were all at home.[6]
Louisa died in 1895. I have not found John Sunday in the 1900 Census. That census reported David, with his wife and two children, farming in York Township, Steuben County;[7] Ida, with her husband and two children, farming in Clear Lake Township;[8] and Marshall, working as a farm laborer on the farm of Frank and Eva Mallory at Jamestowen Township, Steuben County.[9]
John Sunday's death record, in 1906, called him a "fruit agent." He died at Clear Lake Township from Bright's disease of the kidneys.[10]
John Sunday and his wife Louise Hughes had the following children:
