and some of their Descendants
Third Genration

WILLIAM WRIGHT3 COLLINS (Henry2, William1) was born at Pawtucket, Providence County, Rhode Island, on 26 May 1880 a son of Henry Collins and his wife Elizabeth Hollingworth. He died on 1953. He married about 1903-4 AUTHERINA MAY BISHOP. She was born at Rhode Island on 1884, a daughter of Henry L. and Mary J. Bishop. She died on 1953.[1]

William Collins grew up in Pawtucket, the fourth of four children. He followed his father and grandfather into the family business of manufacturing machines for the textile industry.

Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island, published in 1908, reported on the early life of William Collins:[2]

William Wright [Collins], born May 26, 1880, in Pawtucket, was educated in the public schools and took a course in the Rhode Island School of Design at Providence. He then entered the employ of the Collins Brothers Machine Company, and by close application has worked himself up to the position of foreman of the fitting department. He is a young man of ability and is noted for his industry and strict attention to business. He is a member of Jenks Lodge of Masons, Central Falls, and also of Pawtucket Chapter, No, 4, R. A. M. In politics he is a Republican. He attends the Congregational Church.

The 1910 Census reported William Collins, 29, his wife Rena, 24, and their son Winthrop, 3, living at 824 North Main Street, Pawtucket. Living in the same house, but listed as a separate household, was his aunt Esther (Collins) Hollingworth, 50.[3]

By 1920 the family had moved to nearby Seekonk, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Besides William, 39, Rena, 34, and children Winthrop, 12, and Alice, 4, the family included Rena's parents, Henry L. Bishop, 73, and Mary J. Bishop, 65. Henry's occupation was described as "jewelry, clocks."[4]

In 1930 the census found the William Collins family on Brown Avenue, Seekonk, consisting of William, Rena, and the two children. Son Winthrop, 22, worked as an assistant cashier for an insurance company.[5]

The 1940 Census reported this family still on Brown Avenue. William, 59, continued to work as a machinist in a machine shop; wife Antherena, 54. continued as a housewife, daughter Alice, 24, who had completed two years of college, worked as a hostess in a tea room.[6] Son Winthrop Collins, 32, who had married in 1930, lived at East Providence, Providence County, with his wife Elna, 32, and their children Winthrop, 8, and Elisa, 2. Winthrop was now a cashier for an insurance company.[7]

I have no further information on Elisa. Winthrop, Elna, and Winthrop, Junior, all moved at some point in time to Florida, where they were living when they died. The obituary of Winthrop Collins the younger provides some information on his life.[8]

Collins, Winthrop B. "Bud", 81, of Lutz, passed away on December 15, 2012, at the Veterans' Hospital in Tampa. Born in Providence, RI, he graduated from Bryant College and served in the Army during the Korean War as a P.T. boat driver. He also worked for SCM and moved to Syracuse, NY, to open his own office machine sales and service business. Bud was active in the Lions Club, serving as president, and a member of Bachelors and Belles serving on their board of directors. He also enjoyed dancing, stamping, and watching the sun set at the beach. Survivors include his three children and five grandchildren. Graveside services will take place Wednesday, January 9, 2013, 11:30 am, at Florida National Cemetery. . . .
