William Reed

WILLIAM REED (James2, William1) was born at Middleboro, Plymouth County, Plymouth colony, on 10 March 1688/9 a son of James Reed and his wife Susanna Richmond,[1] and died sometime before 21 August 1769. He married before 1715 ELIZABETH ________.[2]

We do not know much about William Reed, and less about his wife Elizabeth. He was called a husbandman or laborer in one court document, a husbandman alias housewright in another. He was taken to court for not attending church on June 1720, December 1728, September 1731, December 1731, December 1733, March 1745/6 and May 1736. He was living on 4 March 1739/40 when his sister Ann Warren sued him; he had died by 21 August 1769, when he was referred to as deceased in his sister Ann's will.[3]

William and Elizabeth Reed had the following children:

  1. WILLIAM4 REED b. at Middleboro, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, on 18 July 1715; d. there on 7 April 1776; m. there on 24 June 1740 SARAH WARREN, b. at Middleboro on 9 February 1721/2, d. after 27 April 1779 (will), child of Samuel Warren and his wife Eleanor Billington.[5]
  2. BENJAMIN4 REED b. at Middleboro on 26 May 1720.[6]
  3. THOMAS4 REED b. at Middleboro on 15 March 1722/3.
  4. JONATHAN4 REED b. at Middleboro on 22 October 1725; d. after 21 August 1769 (mentioned in aunt Ann Warren's will); m. at Middleboro on 11 October 1750 JOANNA TINKHAM, b. at Middleboro on 15 May 1734.[7]
  5. PETER4 REED b. at Middleboro on 7 May 1729; d. there on 8 December 1760; m. on 21 August 1751 MERCY TURNER, d. on 17 November 1774.[8]
