HENRY1 SCHOPF wrote his will on 21 February, 1816. He described himself as a farmer, a resident of Manor Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, "being old and weak of body." However he apparently lived for another fifteen years, as his will was not proved in court until 24 September 1831. As Henry's first child was born in 1783, presuming the father was at least eighteen years old, he would have been born before 1765. I don't know what people thought of as "old" in those days; if he was at least sixty years old, he would have been born before 1756. So Henry Schopf was born sometine in the middle third of the Eighteenth Century. He married MARY ________, mentioned in his will.[1] Their children, mentioned in his will, most of whom are mentioned in the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society cardfile, were:[2]
HENRY2 SCHOPF (Henry 1) was born at Pennsylvania on 11 September 1789 a son of Henry and Mary Schopf . He died on 28 May 1855. He married about 1820 ELIZABETH KAUFFMAN KAUFFLAN. She was born at Pennsylvania on 8 January 1797, a daughter of Christian Kauffman and his wife Elizabeth Kauffman. She died on 18 January 1868.[3]
Henry Schopf was a farmer in Manor Township. The 1850 Census reported him there, age 60, with real estate valued at $ 5000. With him were his wife, Elizabeth, 55, their oldest child, Christian, 26, and their youngest four children: Abraham, 20, Elizabeth, 18, Barbara, 17, and Esther, 14.[4]
Henry Schopf and his wife Elizabeth Kauffman had the following children:[5]
ELIZABETH K.3 SCHOPF (Henry2-1) was born at Pennsylvania on 9 October 1831 a daughter of Henry Schopf and his wife Elizabeth Kauffman. She died at Lancaster County on 15 August 1893. She married on 1856 JOHN HARNISH. He was born at Lancaster County on 26 September 1827, a son of Abraham Harnish and his wife El;izabeth Huber. He died at Lancaster County on 19 April 1875.[6]
