ELLEN MARIA9 TIRRELL (James8, Cornelius7, Benjamin6-5, Gideon4-3, Rebecca Simpkins2, Nicholas Simpkins1) was born at Weymouth, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, on 15 September 1846 a daughter of James Bradford Tirrell and his wife Maria Angenette Bayley,[1] and died at Weymouth on 8 January 1899.[2] She married at Weymouth on 3 July 1867 FRANCIS HENRY FEARING.[3] He was born at Weymouth on 12 July 1843, a son of Israel Fearing and his wife Clarinda White.[4] He died at Weymouth on 27 February 1908.[5]

When Ellen was six years old her father died, leaving her mother with Ellen, her sister Harriett, 3, and a third child on the way. Her widowed mother continued to raise this family in their home in Weymouth. The Civil War began when Ellen was fifteen. Her mother married Israel J. Fearing, a man who had been boarding in their home, just before he went off to war. He did not return; Ellen's mother continued to raise her children alone at home.

In 1867 Ellen married her late step-father's brother, Francis Fearing. Ellen was Francis' step-daughter-in-law. In the 1865 state census their households were listed next to each other, indicating they were probably next-door.

Francis Fearing was the fourth child of Israel and Clarinda (White) Fearing, and grew up through his early years in Weymouth. However the 1855 state census and 1860 federal census reported the family at Rutland, Worcester County, Massachusetts, where Francis and his father farmed.[6] The 1865 state census reporeted the family back in Weymouth; Francis, 23, was listed as a store keeper, living with his father, a farmer.[7]

In 1870 this young Fearing family lived at Weymoutn, at the same residence as his parents, Israel Fearing, 61, ice dealer, and Clarinda, 60. Francis, 28, was a cigar pedlar, Ellen, 23, was keeping house, and their first child, A. Maria, was one year old.[8]

The 1880 Census reported Francis and Ellen Fearing, and their three children, at the residence immediately prior to her mother, Maria Fearing. Francis was a wholesale pedlar of twine, paper bags, etc.[9]

This family changed rapidly in the last years of the Nineteenth Century: Son Albert married in 1896, daughter Angenetta married in 1897, daughter Clarinda died in 1898, at the age of 26, from intestinal tuberculosis,[10] and Ellen died in 1899 at the age of fifty-two, from pneumonia.[11]

The 1900 Census reported widower Francis Henry Fearing living on Main Street, South Weymouth, with his son Albert, Albert's wife, and two children. Francis, age 55, was described as a dealer in stationary.[12] Francis died in 1908 from locomotor ataxia. His death record described him as a wholesale paper dealer.[13]

Daughter Angenetta had married Washington Clark in 1897. The 1900 and 1910 Censuses reported them at Rockland, Plymouth County, Massachusetts. The 1920, 1930 and 1940 censuses reported them at Saint Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida. His occupation in 1900 was listed as mill worker; all later censuses call him a carpenter.[14]

Albert Fearing and family lived at New Rochelle, Westchester County, New York, as reported in censuses from 1910 to 1940. He was a civil engineer for the railroad until the last of those censuses, when he worked as director of public works for the city.[15]

Ellen Maria Tirrell and her husband Francis Henry Fearing had the following children:

ANGANETTA MARIA10 FEARING b. at Weymouth on 3 October 1868;[16] d. at Saint Petersburg before 16 April 1947 (date death reported in paper);[17] m. at Weymouth on 29 September 1897 WASHINGTON CLARK,[18] b. at Prince Edward Island about September 1869, child of William S. and Martha (Cannon) Clark.[19] Angenetta and Washington had the following children:
    1. Francis William Clark b. at Rockland on 10 August 1898,[20] d. at Pinellas County on 30 October 1987;[21] m. about 1924-5 Ruth Stebbins[22] b. at Fitchburg, Worcester County, on 11 April 1906, d. at Saint Petersburg on 5 October 2002.[23] Francis and Ruth had the followiong children:
      1. Priscilla Ruth Clark b. at Florida about January 1926;[24] m. at Pinellas County on 1946 William Byrd Sever.[25]
      2. Francis W. Clark, Jr. b. at Florida about February 1928,[26] d. at Saint Petersburg on 15 October 2016;[27] m. at Pinellas County on 1949 Sara E. Grimsley.[28]
      3. Dorothy Ann Clark b. at Saint Petersburg on 8 September 1931, d. at Corvallis, Benton Couinty, Oregon, on 3 August 2013; m. at Saint Petersburg on 11 May 1951 Richard G. Morrow[29] b. on 29 June 1926; d. at Saint Petersburg on 31 July 1994.[30]
    2. Washington Fraser Clark b. at Rockland on 20 June 1900,[31] d. at Hillsborough County, Florida, on 1 September 1972.[32]
    3. Helen Maud Clark b. at Rockland on 19 April 1903.[33]
  2. CLARINDA ELLEN10 FEARING b. at Weymouth on 20 August 1871; d. there on 6 April 1898.[34]
  3. ALBERT10 JUSTIN FEARING b. at Weymouth on 28 September 1876;[35] d. at New Rochelle on 1 December 1950;[36] m. at Quincy, Norfolk County, on 10 October 1896 MARY LORAINE CUSHING,[37] b. at Weymouth on 14 August 1878, child of Sylvanus Everett Cushing and his wife Mary J. Smith.[38] Albert and Mary had the following children:
    1. Ashton Cushing Fearing b. at Weymouth on 24 April 1897,[39] d. at Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, on 2 December 1946;[40] m. about 1921-2 Anna Hasbach b. at Pennsylvania about 1902-3.[41] Ashton and Anna had the following children:
      1. Ethel Fearing b. at Pennsylvania about 1924-5.[42]
      2. Roy Fearing b. at Pennsylvania about September 1929.[43]
      3. Donald Fearing b. at Pennsylvania about 1931-2.[44]
    2. Clara Eleanor Fearing b. at Weymouth on 212 May 1900.[45]
