JACOB S.6 HARNISH (John5, Abraham4, Michael3, John Jacob2, Martin1) was born at West Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, on 15 August 1857 a son of John Harnish and his wife Elizabeth Schopf. He died at West Lampeter Township on 27 March 1919.[1] He married on 20 January 1881 ANNE MARIE SHAUBACH.[2] She was born at Pennsylvania on 17 January 1861, a daughter of Andrew Shaubach and his wife Christiana Wirth. She died at West Lampeter Township on 31 March 1919.[3]


Annie Shaubach Harnish

Jacob Harnish grew up in West Lampeter Township, the eldest of three children, two of whom lived to adulthood. Anne Marie Shaubach also grew up in West Lampeter Townahip, the third of six children of her German-born parents.

Jacob and Annie Harnish had five children, only two of whom lived to adulthood. Fourteen years separated their two surviving children. The 1900 Census reported the family in Strasburg Township as follows:[4]

Other information provided by this record: Jacob and Annie had been married for 19 years. Annie had given birth to five children, two of whom were living. Jacob owned their farm with benefit of a mortgage.

Jacob and Annie both died in the flu epidemic of 1919, as indicated in the below death records:

At the time of their death, daughter Maud had been married almost eight years, was nursing her third child, and had responsibility for making funeral arrangements for her parents. Daughter Cora was 20, and married the following year.

Jacob Harnish and his wife Annie Marie Shaubach had the following children:

  2. MAUD SHAUBACH7 HARNISH b. at West Lampeter Township on 20 January 1884.
  3. ALICE S.7 HARNISH b. at Lancaster County on 1887; bur. at West Lampeter Township on 1889.[6]
  4. CHRISTIANN S.7 HARNISH b. at Lancaster County on 1889; d. there on 1898.[7]
  5. CORA S.7 HARNISH b. at Paradise Township, Lancaster County, on 1 October 1898; d. at Lancaster, Lancaster County, on 24 May 1953;[8] m. on 17 November 1920 DAVID C. ALTHOUSE,[9] b. at Pennsylvania on 11 October 1899, d. at Paradise Township on 9 February 1975.[10] David and Cora had the followinbg children:
    1. Anna Louise Althouse b. at Pennsylvania about 1922-3;[11] m. on 22 April 1944 John Jones.[12]
    2. William E. Althouse b. at Pennsylvania about 1923-4;[13] m. at Lititz, Lancaster County, on 11 September 1948 Gloria Jean Fry.[14]
    3. Barbara H. Althouse b. at Pennsylvania about January 1926;[15] m. at Strasburg on 3 April 1948 Andrew H. Nissley.[16]
