LINUS DORR6 MAXFIELD (Vernis5, Joshua4-3, Joseph2, John1) was born at Richfield Center, Richfield, Genesee County, Michigan on 2 February 1859, a son of Varnis Maxfield and his wife Percy Amanda Irish. He died at Flint, Genesee County, on 5 February 1918.[1] He married about 1875-6 LORINDA ANN MILLER.[2] She was born at Uxbridge, Ontario County, Ontario, on 10 August 1858, a daughter of John Miller. She died at Green, Alpena County, Michigan, on 20 August 1917.[3] According to information provided to findagrave, she was Ojibwa.[4]
The tenth of ten children, Linus grew up on a farm in Genesee County. Linus and Lorinda married about 1875-6 and were reported in the 1880 Census at Richfield immediately after the Varnis Maxfield family:[5]

Their third child, Julius, was born in 1882. Laverna married in 1893. Sylvia had a son, George, in 1894, and married Fred Smith in 1896. The 1900 Census reported Linus Maxfield farming at Green Township, Alpena County. The household included his wife Lorinda, son Julius, daughter Silva, and Silva's two children:[6]

I did not find Sylvia's husband, Fred Smith, in this census. Sylvia married James Harvey in 1905. The 1910 Census reported this family at Flint as follows:[7]

Julius Maxfield had married in 1909, and continued to farm at Green Townshp. According to the 1910 Census, his wife Maggie was twelve years older than he, and brought three children to the family by a previous marriage: Russell James, 14, James James, 12, and Ruth James, 11.[8]
Lorinda (Miller) Maxfield died in 1917, at the age of 59, from heart disease.[9] Linus Maxfield died in 1918, at the age of 59, from a tumor on the brain.[10]
When Julius Earl Maxfield signed up for the draft, on 12 September 1918, he was described as medium height, medium build, black eyes, brown hair; he was farming for himself.[11] The 1920 Census reported Jules Maxfield, 36, farmer, and Maggie his wife, 41, at Green Township; no children remained at home.[12] In 1930, still at Green Township, Jule E. Maxfield, 47, was a laborer with odd jobs; Maggie, 51, was servant for a private family.[13] Maggie died in 1937 from chronic valvular heart disease.[14] The 1940 Census reported Jules Maxfield, 57, a family of one, farming at Green Township.[15] He died in 1949.
