GEORGE W.6 MAXFIELD (Ira5,Joshua4-3, Joseph2, John1) was born at Washington County, New York, on October 1848[1] a son of Ira Maxfield and his wife Mary Ripley . He was living on 1900 (census). He married first before 1875 (census) KATE SPILLING. She was born at England about 1856-7,[2] a daughter of Thomas and Jane Spilling. She was living on 1900 (census). George married second about 1897-8 JENNIE M. ________, who was born at New York about July 1866.[3] Kate married about 1883-4 ROBERT DINES, who was born at New York on September 1856.[4]
George Maxfield grew up at Whitehall, Washington County, the seventh of seven children. The 1870 census reported him living with his parents at Whitehall, age 20, a boatman.[5] He married before the 1875 New York state census, which reported George and Kate living with her parents:[6]

By 1880 George and Kate were living apart. The census of that year reported George W. Maxfield, 35, wood turner, living with his parents at Whitehall.[7] That same census reported Kate Maxfield, 21, washerwoman, living at a hotel in Whitehall.[8]
About 1883-4 Kate married Robert Dines, with whom she was reported in the 1892 state census, along with her two Maxfield children:[9]

Lizzie Maxfield was also reported a servant in the household of James H. Parker at Whitehall.[10] In that same census, George Maxfield, 45, carpenter, was living at Whitehall with his mother, Mary M. Maxfield, 72.[11]
About 1897-8 George remarried, and was reported in the 1900 Census living at Whitehall:[12]
