ALBERT FLETCHER7 MAXFIELD (James6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1 ) was born at Fairfax, Vermont, on 25 October 1819 (B. Lott), a child of James Harvey Maxfield and his wife Sarah Ingersoll. Albert probably migrated west with his paretns, from Vermont to Ohio, and then to Illinois.

Albert Maxfield married ESTHER COOK at DeKalb County, Illinois, on 14 May 1843 (Ill M). Esther Cook was born at Pennsylvania on 9 June 1823 (B. Lott).

The Albert Maxfield family was reported at Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois, in the 1850 and 1860 censuses; the 1870 census located tham at Polk Township, Taylor County, Iowa; in 1880 they had reached Solomon, Phillips County, Kansas. Judging from the birth states of their children, as reported in censuses, they moved from Illinois to Iowa some time between 1861 and 1866. Albert was a cooper in the 1850 record, a farmer in the other census records. The ages of Albert, Esther, and their children, are recorded in the censuses as follows:

1850 1860 1870 1880
Albert 31 40 50 60
Esther 27 38 40 56
Elvira 7 16

Abby 1 11
Lydia 9
Andrew 5 14 25
Ada 3 12
Watson 1 10 21
Eddie 8
Emma 4 14

In 1880 (393:169D) the household included grandchildren and daughters-in-law:

Willie Hefner was the son of David and Abigail (Maxfield) Heifner; Hattie Maxfield was the daughter of Leander Maxfield and his first wife Harriet.

The 1885 Kansas State Census (KS Cen 1885:107:1) reported the family at Solomon, Phillips County, Kansas, Marvin Post Office. The family consisted of Albert Maxfield, 65, farmer, born Vermont, from Kansas, Esther Maxfield, 58, born Pennsylvania, Mary E. Maxfield, 18, born Iowa, and Hattie Maxfield, 12, born Iowa. Mary E. would appear to be the same person as "Emma" in the 1880 and 1870 censuses.

Albert Fletcher was buried at Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa, but the marker does not record any dates (Ia Cem), Esther died on 24 February 1899 (B. Lott).
