WILLIAM WALLACE7 MAXFIELD (James6, William5, David4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Mount Vernon, Knox County, Ohio, on 24 July 1827 (Lott), probably a child of James Harvey Maxfield and his wife Sophia Ingersoll. William's parentage is suggested by his appearance in the 1850 census immediately after Harvey and Sophia Maxfield. He probably migrated to Illinois with his parents.

William Maxfield married ELIZABETH PUTNAM at Kane County, Illinois, on 8 October 1848 (IL M). Elizabeth was born at Maine about 1827/8 (1850 census).

This family appeared in the 1850 (104:388B) census at Sycamore, DeKalb County, Illinois, as follows:

William Maxfield died on the Great Plains headed to California in the gold rush in 1852 (Lott). Widow Elizabeth (Putnam) Maxfield married THOMAS L. RANSOM at De Kalb County, Illinois, on 9 April 1854 (IL M).

William Wallace Maxfield and his wife Elizabeth Putnam had the following children:

  1. ADOLPHUS F.8 MAXFIELD b. at DeKalb Co., IL, on 25 July 1948
  2. LORENZO LEMARTIN8 MAXFIELD b. at Illinois on 28 September 1850
