LESTER ROBERT10 MAXFIELD (John9, Jeremiah8, John7, Nathaniel6, Eliphalet5, Nathaniel4, Eliphalet3, Nathaniel2, John1) was born at Great Falls, Cascade County, Montana, on 4 February 1912 a son of John Clyde Maxfield and his wife Clara Ruby Converse. He died at Kent, King County, Washington, on 16 July 1977.[1] He married for the first time at King County on 7 June 1941 VIVIAN LORETTA YOUNG.[2] She was born at Gordon, Sheridan County, Nebraska, on 30 August 1920, a daughter of Freeman and Grace (Dean) Young. She died at Seattle, King County, on 12 July 1947.[3] Lester married secondly at King County on 11 May 1957 DOLORES (________) OLSON.[4] She was born at Sedan, Chautauqua County, Kansas, on 31 July 1923 and died at Kent on 24 July 2006.[5]
Lester Robert Maxfield was the oldest of seven children that survived to adulthood of a farm family that moved often. Born in Montana, by the age of 2 Lester was living with his famiy at Prosser, Adams County, Nebraska; by age 7 he was at Gordon, Sheridan County, Nebrska; by age 15 at Denby, Shannon County, South Dakota; and by age 23 at Russell, King County, Washington. In 1940, when the census was taken, Lester Maxfield, age 28, was living with his parents and his three youngest siblings at Russell, where he worked as a farm hand, but had been out of work for 26 weeks.[6]
Lester enlisted in the military during the buildup to World War II. He enlisted at Seattle, Washington, on 3 February, 1941. According to the record he was single, had completed four years of high school, was 5' 5" tall and weighted 126 pounds. He served from 3 February to 30 September 1941,[7] and so had returned to civilian life before the outbreak of war.
During his time in military service, Lester Maxfield married Vivian Loretta Young, who was born in one of the Nebraska communities in which Lester had lived during his boyhood. They had three children, the first of whom lived only one day. Vivian died from kidney failure at the age of 26; they had only been married six years. She left Lester with two daughters, ages 3 and 1. Following her death, Lester and his two daughters lived with his parents for ten years. Lester worked for Boeing, painting airplanes.
After ten years as a widower, Lester Robert Maxfield married Delores Olson. He brought to their marriage his two daughters, ags 13 and 11; she brought four daughters and one son.
Lester Robert Maxfield died at King County, Washington, in 1977. His widow Delores died 29 years later, in 2006. She was a homemaker . . .a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible, crocheting, needlepoint and working jigsaw puzzles.[8]
