ANDREW5 SUNDAY (Daniel4, Andrew3, Jacob3, Hans Adam1) was born at Pennsylvaina on 11 August 1831 a son of Daniel Sunday and his wife Catherine Rheinhart, and died on 25 February 1870.[1] He married at Steuben County, Indiana, on 26 November 1854 MARY RITTER.[2] She was born at Ohio on 4 November 1835, a daughter of Henry Ritter and Mary Harpster. She died at Steuben County on 6 April 1912.[3]

Andrew Sunday was born at Centre County, Pennsylvania, the second of eight children. When he was about one year old he moved to Ohio with his parents and older sister. There he grew up. By the time of his marriage, in 1854, he had moved to Steuben County, Indiana. There he farmed.

Andrew and Mary had eight children. Four of the first five died in infancy or childhood. Their last three children survived to adulthood.

Andrew died in 1870, at the age of 38. He left a widow, age 34, and children aged 11, 5, 2, and seven months. The 1870 Census, taken about three months after Andrew's death, reported the family in Steuben Township, Steuben County, Pleasant Lake Post Office, as follows:[4]

5. Sundy, David 12 M W IN
6. Sundy, Mary 6 F W IN
7. Sundy, Della 3 F W IN
8. Sundy, Henry 1 M W IN

David was attending school.

Widow Mary Sunday never remarried. Son David married in 1878, at the age of nineteen. The 1880 Census reported Mary and the remaining three children at home in Steuben Township.[5]

The 1900 Census reported Mary Sunday, 64, living on a farm with her son Henry, 30, his wife Dora, 27, their daughter Vera, 3, and also Mary's mother, Mary Ritter, 88, a cousin of Henry's, Theophilis Ritter, 38, and a nephew of Henry, John Hartman, 12.[6] Mary Sunday's son David and daughter Della, both married, lived with their families in Steuben Township. Daughter Mary lived with her family in Arthur Township, Clare County, Michigan.

The 1910 Census reported Mary Sunday still on the farm in Steuben Township, with her son Henry, his wife, and their two daughters.[7]
