FREDERICK5 SUNDAY (Daniel4, Andrew3, Jacob2, Hans Adam1) was born at Ohio, on 3 August 1834, a son of Daniel Sunday and his wife Catherine Rheinhart, and died at Silver Lake, Kosciusko County, Indiana, on 23 December 1916.[1] He first married at Kosciusko County on 18 June 1856 LUCETTA WELLER.[2] She was born at Ohio about 1839-40[3] and died between 15 June 1870 and 17 October 1871. Frederick married second at Miami County, Indiana, on 17 October 1871 ELIZABETH YOUNT.[4] She was born at Kosciusko County on 11 June 1846, a daughter of William Yount. She died at Silver Lake on 8 September 1902.[5] Frederick married third at Lake County, Indiana, on 19 May 1903 SARAH SMITH.[6] She was born at Ohio about 1844-5.[7]
Frederick Sunday grew up on farms in Ohio, the fourth of eight children. At some point in his teen-age years the family moved to Steuben County, Indiana.
Frederick Sunday and Lucetta Weller married in 1856, and the 1860 Census found them farming in Steuben Township, Steuben County, with two small children.[8]
While Civil War raged, Frederick and Lucetta farmed, and had two more children. Frederick Sunday was drafted into the Union Army at the age of 30. On 9 December 1864 he was placed in the 12th regiment of Indiana Infantry. His regiment participated in the seige of Savannah, 10 to 21 December, and then proceeded north, engaging in some minor skirmishes, and arriving at Richmond after the city had fallen. Frederick Sunday was mustered out of the Army on 8 June 1865.[9]
The 1870 Census reported this Sunday family at Pleasant Township, Wabash County, Indiana, where Frederick farmed, Lucetta kept house, and the oldest four children attended school. The family consisted of Frederic, 35, Lucetta, 33, Franklin, 13, George, 11, Lincoln, 9, William, 7, and Anna, 4.[10]
Lucetta (Weller) Sunday died, at the age of about 33, sometime after the birth of their sixth child on 15 June 1870, and before Frederick's second marriage on 17 October 1871.
Frederick was 37 years old when he married 25 year old Elizabeth Yount at Miami County, Indiana. Elizabeth became the step-mother of children ages 15, 12, 10, 8, 3 and 1. These children had five more years of growing before Fred and Elizabeth had chuldren who survived childhood.
This Sunday family settled in Silver Lake, Lake Township, Kosciusko County, where Fred farmed.
The 1880 Census reported Fredrick Sundy, 43, laborer, Mary E. (perhaps her full name was Mary Elizabeth), 34, children of Fred's first marriage, William, 15, and Charles, 9, and the first child of this second marriage, Mary, 4.[11] Eldest child Franklin had married in 1878 and lived in Steuben County,[12] second son George was working on the farm of Wickliff Parsell in Steuben County,[13] third son, A. L. Sunday, was reported as a servant working on the farm of Ira and Sarah Burk at Silver Lake.[14] Anna had died in 1879 at the age of eleven.
In the next few years the children of Frederick and Lucetta established their own families, while Frederick and Elizabeth gave birth to and raised new children. James was born in 1882. George married in 1883. Abraham married about 1885-6. Walter was born in 1886. Charles married in 1892. I have no further information on William.
The 1900 Census reported the family of Frederick and Elizabeth at Lake Township.[15]

This census also reported that Frederic and Elizabeth had been married 28 years, that Elizabeth had given birth to six children, only three of whom survived, and that Frederic owned his farm.
Daughter Mary Matilda died in September of 1900, age 24, from septicemia and exhaustion.[16] Elizabeth died two years later, at age 56, from dropsy.[17]
Nine months after Elizabeth's death, Frederick married as his third wife, at Lake County, Sarah C. Smith. I do not know Sarah's maiden name. According to the 1910 census, where she is called "Lusetta," this was her fourth marriage, and she had eight children, six of whom were still living. Five months after his father's third marriage, James married. In 1910, son Walter, 23, was still living at home, a laborer.[18]
Frederick Sunday died in 1916 at the age of 82, from acute bronchitis.[19]
Son Walter Sunday first married, at the age of 31, Louise (Land) White, who was 41.
Frederick Sunday and his first wife Lucinda Weller had the following children:
Frederick Sunday and his second wife Elizabeth Yount had the following children:
