JOHN G.2 MAXFIELD (William1) was born in England about 1813 (1812-3 in 1850, 1880 censuses, 1814/5 in 1860, 1870 censuses), a child of William Maxfield.

John G. Maxfield came to America in 1835 (Tom Maxfield), and soon after married MARY ELIZABETH GUION, who was born in New York about 1821 (1820/1 in the 1850 census, 1821/2 in 1870 and 1880 censuses, 1824/5 in 1860 census)

The John Maxfield family was counted in the 1850 Census in the Seventh Ward of Brooklyn, New York, as follows:

The 1870 census (860:1:64B) reported this family at Bloomfield, Essex County, New Jersey. The family consisted of John, age 55, born in England, a fruit dealer, Mary C., 48, John F., 29, a fruit dealer, Joseph D., 27, clerk in a bank, Eliza W., 22, no occupation, Adam T., 14, at school, and Jennie M. age 10, at school. All the children were born in New York except Jennie, born in New Jersey, which suggests that they moved to new Jersey in 1860, after the census.

The 1880 census (780:391A) reported John and Mary living at Bloomfield, with Jennie the only child still at home. John G. Maxfield continued to work as a fruit merchant.

John and Mary Maxfield had the following children:
